Double Whammy

After 3 weeks of a grueling exam period, I finally can afford to put up my leg and rest, at least for a while. On Saturday, I went to 1 Utama twice in the same day. Initially, I went there at 12pm for a futsal match. Then, I went to PJEFC for a short play called 'A Second Chance'. To be honest, the cast did a good job but the play just wasn't inspiring and touching.

After that, I was suppose to follow Bob Rick home but he decided to go to 1 Utama with fellow church members (namely Jia Hong, Grace Lee, Grace Chow, Kassandra) and Li Wen + Neal

So in the end I tagged along to 1 Utama

Today is the Lantern/Mooncake Festival.

The Lantern Festival is also known as the Little New Year since it marks the end of the series of celebrations starting from the Chinese New Year. The Koreans celebrate this festival as the Daeboreum.

Reasons why I love this festival:

#3 I get to chill and my parents won't force me to study :-)

Anyway, I have to prepare myself for Gerak Gempur. Come to think of it, I looking forward to SPM. I want to get this over with and take a good long rest. After that, I got NS to look forward to. Besides that, I have to prepare for the Taylor's Principal Award scholarship interview. I need Rabin!!! :-)

Of Exams and Trials

I am back blogging...after a three week absence. By right, I am suppose to be studying, since its trials but all work and no play makes Jeric a dull boy :-)

anyway, just to let you know, I was 'lucky' enough to be chosen to participate in National Service. A lot of J's I know kena NS like Jack, Justin L, Justin C, Jia Hong, Jung Xin, Jason and maybe more. Its not that I mind since I am a fan of physical activities and such, its because its going to disrupt my plans for 2009.

Also, I just passed my driving test. I can now legally drive!!! I took the exam on the Monday before the trials and luckily, I aced the test. If not, I will have to retake and waste my time waiting for my turn for the exam.


I would also like to comment on Malaysia's recent outing in the Beijing Olympics. Malaysia's achievement: 0 gold, 1 silver and 0 bronze. In contrast, China have a whopping 51 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 28 bronze medals. Really, Malaysia Boleh huh? And for the silver medal winner of Malaysia, he is now a Datuk and have a 6 figure bank account. Just for a silver? I think its too much. Anyway, Chong Wei, you still won a medal, so great job.

Also, I would like to salute our unsung heroes in our community. Today, I saw a few workers braving the dizzying height and obvious danger to fix the electrical transmission cables behing my house. Truly, without them, we will have no steady supply of electricity.

National Robotics Competition (NRC)
It was on 22/7. I seriously can't believe that my team consisting of Lerg Foong, Naj and me actually got 10th. It's even harder to believe Jin Howe's team beat my team :-( and achieved 9th.

Life is like a game of snake and ladders

How? You are the player and the objective is to finish the race first. Sounds like life. To move forward, you need to take a gamble and throw the dice. By throwing the dice, you risk falling into the 'snake trap' and sliding backwards. But if you don't throw the dice, you will remain stagnant. Pretty much like life. Throwing a dice is like making a decision and taking a leap forward. But that leap forward could cause you to fall even more back. That means making a bad decision. However, without doing anything, you remain achieve nothing and stay stagnant. Yeah, exactly like life.

Sometimes, I feel like the board game piece instead of the player. I am helpless while watching other things happen. I am helpless while witnessing the dice which will determine my fate being thrown. But sometimes, its better to let that Someone Else to determine your life.

Intensive Robotics Training

Since NRC is just around the corner, on Tuesday (22/7) to be exact, all the NRC participants came to school on sat to try to finish up the robot programming. Even though we spend 5 and a half hours in the computer lab, our programs are still incomplete, especially Jin Howe's team :-)

After that, my team comprising of me, Lerg & Naj and Jin Howe's team consisting of himself, Razdan & Jay went to Jay's house to continue our programming.

After meeting Jay's mum, I think I know where Jay got his debating skills from. After another hour, my team finally completed our program, but Jin Howe's 'superman' programs still produce 'outstanding' results :-)

Recognize these people? Ministers shrouded in controversy and doubt, definitely. This political turmoil reminds me of a Oscar nominated film scene, except that this is 100% real and original.

And this particular Kedah Menteri Besar wants to chop down a huge area of forest for its timber. He said he wants to 'make use of God's gift'. Hey dude, think of the environment and the implications that could occur.

Career Day (Hari Kerjaya)

As a member of Kelab Kerjaya, I dutifully perform my duties as 'student ambassador'. I am supposed to overlook a speech entitled 'Kreativiti di Kolej' by Taylor's, but I screwed it up in a way. I could not find the pensyarah, did not present myself to the teacher in charge, failed to register the pensyarah and passed up my report on the speech late.

Just like any Education Fair, I decided not to spend too much time in the pameran and went for the Psychology talk by Help. Not bad, the talk was quite engaging. Very likely I will go into the field of Psychology or Architecture or even Quantity Survey.

After that, we needed to clean the hall. Later, we had pizza for lunch. Hsein Lee ate an astonishing eight slices of pizza!!

Went for school jogothon today. Luckily weather wasn't hot when running. Managed to finished 26th in the L1 category, beating the likes of Dinie, Ka Wai, Brian :-) ...but no medal or anything esle, only top 20 can receive. Congrats to Eugune, who finished first and Teck Chai, who got 4th.
